Makeup by Fenella St John

Here’s Fenella’s guide to creating this fabulous natural look;

Complexion:

Always prep the skin really well before applying any make-up.

Start by correcting and concealing any dark areas around the eye – Fenella recommends Bobbi Brown’s concealer’s and corrector’s – correctors brighten and concealer’s lighten an area. These will work fabulously if you have had a sleepless night before your big day. Use the concealer where ever else it is needed on the face – possibly round the nose or over any imperfections.

Then apply the foundation that is right for you – you may prefer tinted moisturizer, a mineral powder or an oil-free cream etc – there are many different foundations suited for all skin types and tones. You want an exact match to your skin so in this image – Fenella used Bobbi Brown liquid foundation in the areas this model most needed it for a medium coverage. Fenella used a foundation brush and blended the foundation into the skin moving the brush upwards. You don’t need much – a little goes a long way!

After you have applied the foundation, apply a powder, in this case Fenella used a Mac blot pressed powder to the t-zone only – this gets rid of shine and sets the make-up really well giving a smooth natural finish. Loose powder will provide more coverage. Using a soft fluffy brush lightly also set the concealer under the eye area.

Blush:

Here, Fenella used a Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick Compact on the cheek bones (in Nectar) then a Mac blush (Mocha) to the apples of the cheek with a tiny touch of Bobbi brown blush |(Apricot) for a fresh look and a pop of colour. Always make sure it is blended thoroughly – you can do this by using a powder puff – you don’t want any noticeable blush lines at all! It should look natural and balanced.

Eyes:

Fenella used a Dior 5 eye colour set in 440 (Sunset Café) here - you don’t need to use the full set of colours, it depends on the shadows and the look you want to achieve. Fenella only used 3 of the colours.

Use the palest colour all over the lid first which acts as a base and you can blend the shadows into this that you’re applying later. Apply the darker shade in the crease of the outer eye only – blending it really well so you can’t see any harsh lines. Apply the medium shade to the middle of the socket layering this eye shadow up. Then apply a thin layer of liner on the top lash line and the lower lash line with a new clean slanted brush and then blend this line away so it leaves a soft line. Fenella finished the eye look by using a small amount of natural pearly Mac dazzle dust on the brow bone for that extra subtle glow.

Using Diorshow Iconic waterproof mascara – make sure you coat the back of the lashes as well as you don’t want any fallen eye shadow placed here which could be noticed in any photographs of the bride when looking down. Make sure you apply a layer of mascara to every lash – don’t forget the outer and inner lashes and apply it closely to the base of the lashes separately them as you go along.

Look away and see if the eyes need any more definition and apply accordingly.
Always remember to shape your brows and fill them in lightly – this will frame your face and finish off the look beautifully.

Lips:

Firstly, Fenella used a Bobbi Brown lip liner (ballet pink) covering the lips to create a smooth and even base for the lipstick – lip liner also acts as a great outline for you to precisely colour the lips in. Then she applied a thin layer of YSL Rouge Pur Couture (no11) lipstick all over with a YSL gloss pur in no2 on top just in the centre of the lips to create a lovely shine.
